FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK:
As you know, the lay out of the JCMS campus is very open and causes security concerns as it relates to the safety of students and staff during the school day. In an effort to ensure as safe a campus as possible, we are implementing some security measures starting January 4, 2012 when we return to campus for the spring semester:
1. All staff and students will be required to wear a visible school ID. Lanyards will be provided, but students can also provide their own should they choose. An ID was issued at the start of the year; if it has been lost the cost to replace it is $5. Please ensure that your student has an ID card by January 6, 2012. Replacements are done through the library. Students will be issued a replacement free of charge on a case by case basis.
2. All exterior doors will be locked during the school day to ensure restricted access with the exceptions of the front office and the library.
3. All visitors to campus will be required to SIGN IN at the front office and receive a VISITORS LANYARD. This will be given in exchange for a picture ID which the office will keep while you are on campus. We ask that visitors also SIGN OUT. This will allow us to know who is on the campus at all times. Any visitors that do not have a lanyard while out on campus will be redirected to the front office.
4. Students being signed out must have a parent/guardian present at the time the call to the classroom is made. We will not pull students out of class by phone call. This allows us to ensure appropriate access to the students. Please have a picture ID with you.
5. We are looking at getting funding for fencing on the north and west sides of the campus to further control access to and from the state land that is currently open.
While time-consuming and somewhat cumbersome, these changes in our security measures will help us make JCMS one of the safest campuses in the Sierra Vista Unified School District. Please let me know if you have questions or comments.
Enjoy the holiday season and the winter break, and have a safe New Year!
Yours in Education,
Melissa Sadorf
